Sir Roy McKenzie ONZ KBE 1922-2007
Sir Roy McKenzie's story and influence started when he was part of New Zealand's first Winter Olympic Team that competed in Oslo in 1952. In those days, the journey itself to the 1952 Winter Olympics was a major challenge for the team. Whilst at the Olympics, Sir Roy captured athletes on film and brought the footage back to New Zealand. It was from this endeavor that the vision to create an opportunity for others to develop their skills in the alpine and winter activities was born.
Sir Roy's generosity to The Snowvision Foundation enabled it to launch the Snowvision McKenzie Scholarships in 2006, at Old Parliament Buildings in Wellington.
The Snowvision Foundation is extremely grateful to Sir Roy McKenzie and his early confidence in our vision. He was a huge source of inspiration and motivation in helping us start on our vision – to build a capital fund to help the winter alpine community of New Zealand.
This community will be eternally grateful to Sir Roy McKenzie and his family for what they have done for New Zealanders over the years and Sir Roy's legend in skiing will live on for many years and generations to come.
Sir Roy McKenzie was truly a great New Zealander.
