Snowvision awards reward snow athletes who go the distance.
The Snowvision Performance Awards have been created to encourage and assist New Zealand's leading snow sports athletes. Snowboarders, ski racers and cross country skiers who are selected for the New Zealand Winter Olympic team and go on to complete their mission at Torino will receive a $1000 Snowvision grant on their return.
Fiona Stevens, one of the founders of the Snowvision Foundation and a former New Zealand ski champion, says that this winter's Blackonwhite ski camps helped to raise funds for the awards. "Claudia Riegler and I ran the ski camps at Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt, Treble Cone and Mt Ruapehu, and it was a hugely successful exercise - as a fundraiser, for developing people's skills and as a way to link the participant and competitive sides of the sport."
Formed in 2004, Snowvision has a mission to 'unlock New Zealand's potential as a snow sports nation and help get 'black on white' performing on the competition slopes of the world'. With Sir Edmund Hillary as its patron, the organisation is building a capital fund that will help to support the development of New Zealand's future on the snow.
